Our History

A single courier, a suitcase, and a seat on the train; the origins of WAY.

WAY was founded by John E. Way, Jr. in October 1970 and originated as Way Messenger Service. Starting with a single courier, a suitcase, and a seat on the train, John Way’s vision for Way Messenger was more than just same day courier service. It was about providing optimum value, professionally uniformed drivers, and a customer satisfaction standard that was untouchable by his competitors.  It was this passion for its customers that led Way Messenger Service to become Way Delivery Services in 1996 and expand its services from the time-critical delivery of small packages to the delivery of any size shipments anywhere in the Continental U.S. Services such as warehouse staging, driver leasing, expedited runs and dedicated deliveries were soon added to the menu of distribution services.

Growing beyond small parcel – WAY’s distribution and logistics expansion.

In 2015, WAY started its latest chapter when it was purchased by Shawn Barto. In 2021, the company relocated to a 14-acre, 214,000 square foot facility a few miles from the original Way Messenger Service location. This new freight terminal location and warehouse footprint enabled the team to add new logistics operations and a vehicle service center, while expanding its carrier reach.

No matter the owner nor year, WAY has always maintained its core values of resourcefulness, hard work, accountability and customer satisfaction.
